IF I COULD BUILD ANYTHING I WANTED III
Hand-carved plywood, wood, concrete, and oil paint
8 x 4 x 4 feet
Site-specific installation for Art In Odd Places 2017: SENSE curated by Nicolás Dumit Estévez Raful – with Rocío Aranda and Jodi Waynberg.
Installed outside of Santuario de Ntra. Señora de Guadalupe En San Bernardo, 328 W 14th St, between 8th Ave and Hudson St in NYC.
Resembling an NYC construction facade, it is a wish to see something other than commercial development through the diamond-cut windows New Yorkers pass and ignore daily. This unassuming green monolith-like structure houses a giant relief of human existence, past, present, and future. Inspired by pre-Columbian glyphs, the rectangular attempts to connect us to the cosmos and travel through time.
Special thanks: Jodi Waynberg, Man Bartlett, Mark Power, Natalee Cayton, Jack Warner, Nick Grasso, and Santuario de Ntra. Señora de Guadalupe.
